چکیده

Various stakeholders are increasingly interested in the potential toxicity and other risks associated with nanomaterials throughout the different stages of a product’s life cycle (e.g., development, production, use, disposal). Risk assessment methods and tools developed and applied to chemical and biological materials may not be readily adaptable for nanomaterials because of the current uncertainty in identifying the relevant physico-chemical and biological properties that adequately describe the materials. Such uncertainty is further driven by the substantial variations in the properties of the original material due to variable manufacturing processes employed in nanomaterial production. To guide scientists and engineers in nanomaterial research and application as well as to promote the safe handling and use of these materials, we propose a decision support system for classifying nanomaterials into different risk categories. The classification system is based on a set of performance metrics that measure both the toxicity and physico-chemical characteristics of the original materials, as well as the expected environmental impacts through the product life cycle. Stochastic multicriteria acceptability analysis (SMAA-TRI), a formal decision analysis method, was used as the foundation for this task. This method allowed us to cluster various nanomaterials in different ecological T. Tervonen Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen, P.O. Modified CLPSO-based fuzzy classification System: Color Image Segmentation

Fuzzy segmentation is an effective way of segmenting out objects in images containing both random noise and varying illumination. In this paper, a modified method based on the Comprehensive Learning Particle Swarm Optimization (CLPSO) is proposed for pixel classification in HSI color space by selecting a fuzzy classification system with minimum number of fuzzy rules and minimum number of incorr...

Liposome and polymer-based nanomaterials for vaccine applications

Nanoparticles (NPs) are effective and safe adjuvants for antigen delivery in modern vaccinology. Biodegradable nanomaterials with suitable properties are frequently applied for conjugation or loading with antigens; they protect the antigens from degradation in vivo. NPs are applied as effective delivery system to facilitate antigen uptake by antigen presenting cells (APCs) and especially dendri...

Identification of Houseplants Using Neuro-vision Based Multi-stage Classification System

In this paper, we present a machine vision system that was developed on the basis of neural networks to identify twelve houseplants. Image processing system was used to extract 41 features of color, texture and shape from the images taken from front and back of the leaves. The features were fed into the neural network system as the recognition criteria and inputs. Multilayer perceptron (MLP) ne...
